A song for a name day
A name day comes every year, and the wishes are always the same. How to give a song or a poem with the person's name and story — and what to tell us.

The phone rings from the morning on. “Happy name day — health, happiness, lots of love.” The same next year, and the year after. Yet a name day is a rare kind of occasion: a celebration of the name itself and of the person behind it.
That makes it a lovely reason for a gift unlike any other: a song or a poem about the person behind the name — with their story.
Why a song or a poem for a name day
A name is the first thing we learn about someone and the last thing we forget. A song or a poem woven from the memories and the people around them stays long after the cake and the flowers are forgotten. And on the big Bulgarian name days — St John's, St George's, St Demetrius', St Nicholas' and St Stephen's Day — when everyone gathers, a gift like this gets played at the table and remembered.
Who it's for
- mum, dad, grandma or grandpa — a name day when the whole family is together (a song for mum, for grandparents);
- the one you love — a more personal greeting than a bouquet (for the woman you love, for the man you love);
- a friend — with all the jokes about their name (for a best friend);
- a colleague — a gift from the whole team instead of yet another bottle.
What to tell us
- the name and what you call them — pet names, nicknames, what their mum calls them;
- what the person is like — what sets them apart, what they love, what annoys them;
- your traditions — who comes round, what gets cooked, which song is always played at the table;
- what you wish them — for real, not “health and happiness”.
Songs are written to have lasting value, so the name stays out of the lyrics — it is heard in a separate intro at the start (“This song is for…”). Tell us how it should sound. If you only want a greeting with the name on a finished Paliva song, order a personal intro.
When to order
Name days don't move — so it's easy to order in time. The usual delivery time is on the occasion page; if the day is close, put the date in your order. When an express order is offered, you can choose it.
A good wish is said. The best one gets played again.
Frequently asked questions
Will the name be in the song?
The name stays out of the lyrics so the song keeps its lasting value — it is heard in a separate intro at the start. Put it in your order with how it should sound.
A song or a poem?
A song gets played at the table and brings everyone together. A poem is for a card, for reading aloud or for a frame on the wall. Both are written from your story.
Can it be for someone who celebrates on St John's or St Nicholas' Day?
Yes — for any name day. Tell us which day it is and when, so we're on time.
