A song for your first dance — your story instead of someone else's

The room goes quiet. Someone dims the lights, the photographer leans forward, and the two of you stand in the middle waiting for the first chords. It lasts about three minutes — and your guests will talk about it for years.

Most couples dance to a well-known song. It's beautiful, but it was written for someone else. That's why more and more couples want the song to be theirs: about how they met, the road so far and the promise they're making.

Why your own song

  • Nobody else has danced to it. It's only yours — at the wedding and on every anniversary after.
  • Your guests hear your story. No speeches or slideshows — the song tells it for you.
  • It stays. Years later you'll play it in the kitchen over dinner and dance again — in socks this time.

What to tell us

You don't need to write beautifully. Write the way you'd tell a close friend:

  • how you met — and what you honestly thought of each other then;
  • the first trip, the first argument, the moment you knew this was “your person”;
  • the habits, jokes and words only the two of you understand;
  • what you promise each other from now on.

If the song is a surprise from one of you, tell it from your point of view. If you're ordering together, both of you can write — there's room in the form for both stories.

We write songs to have lasting value, so names usually stay out of the lyrics. If you'd like them to be heard, ask for a separate intro.

Tempo and length

Think about how you'll dance:

  • a classic slow dance — a ballad or a calm pop song with a gentle or romantic mood;
  • a dance with a twist — a slow start that turns into something rhythmic (write it in “Music wishes”);
  • length — two or three minutes is usually enough for a first dance; if you have choreography, tell us exactly how long.

A duet is a lovely choice if you want the song to sound like a conversation between the two of you.

When to order

At least a month before the wedding. That leaves time for a revision and for you to rehearse with the finished song. The usual delivery time is on the occasion's page; if the date is getting close, put it in your order and we'll tell you whether it's possible. When an express order is offered, you can choose it.

The dance ends after three minutes. The song stays for a lifetime.

Frequently asked questions

How long before the wedding should we order?

At least a month — for a revision and rehearsals. If the date is closer, put it in your order and we'll tell you whether it's possible.

Can the song be in English?

Yes — you choose the language of the lyrics in the form. English costs more; see the occasion's page.

Will our names be in the song?

Usually not in the lyrics, so the song keeps its lasting value. For a dedication with your names there can be a separate intro.
