A Christmas gift you can't buy in a shop

The twenty-third of December. The shops are full, the car park is full, and you're standing in front of a shelf of scarves trying to remember whether you gave exactly this one last year. Every Christmas we promise it'll be different — and every Christmas it's the same.

There's another way. A gift that isn't wrapped in paper, but played at the table while everyone is together.

Why a song for Christmas

Christmas is the one time the whole family sits at one table. That's exactly when a song about you — with your stories, your jokes and the people you miss — is at its most powerful. It isn't “another present” but a moment everyone will remember.

Who for

What to tell us

  • your Christmas traditions — who bakes the bread, who finds the coin, who always falls asleep in front of the TV;
  • the year — what happened, what you overcame, who arrived (or left);
  • the people you miss — the song can quietly invite them to the table;
  • what you wish — for the next year, for everyone.

The mood can be festive and warm, or quiet and moving. If you'd like sleigh bells, write it in “Music wishes”.

When to order

This matters most: many orders come in before Christmas. Order by early December so there's time for a revision too. The usual delivery time is on the occasion's page; if it's already late, put the date in your order — when an express order is offered, you can choose it.

How to give it

On Christmas Eve, once everyone has sat down. Or on Christmas morning, instead of an alarm. If you like, add a card with the lyrics — or order a poem too, to read aloud.

The best gifts aren't unwrapped. They're listened to.
